National Train Day

This is my little drawing of the Wine Train. I was curious why the Wine Train didn't have some kind of event today on National Train Day. I really love that train, I rode it last year while taking photographs. I have a really great one of Chef Kelly in the Wine Train kitchen cooking his pork loins...

Art, Artists and Artwork

We are two artists living in downtown Napa. We create artwork in many forms and believe that making delicious wine is an art as well. Art and wine, like food and love, they all slow dance together to the classical music...

We heard a rumor, we live here, we can't help it. The rumor is there's a NEW wine company in town. I know, that's NOT news in Napa, but this one is right across the street. I was talking to my new neighbor and asked him about his new adventure, Mr. J says yes, it's true.

I'll post more information about this new wine just as soon as I ask him how much I can say!

It's almost that time again. SPRING! Time to plan the ultimate smoky seafood Bar B Que in Napa Valley. That means deciding on some WINE.

That's right, these photos were NOT retouched or modified anyway in PhotoShop. We found these tasty vegetables at the newly opened Whole Foods Store in Napa right next door to my old favorite Trader Joe's.

Copia street painting event in Napa Valley Wine Country

This is a perspective shot to show the scale of this thing. It was 12 feet square, we didn't realize how big that really was until we got down on our KNEES!
As an artist, I thought this event was really well planned. They had a courtesy tent available to us which made all the difference, I believe it was the ladies from New Tech High School here in Napa that were such wonderful hosts. They made us feel welcome, even going around handing out cold bottles of water, now that's class!

Art In Napa Valley

Well, we did it! We designed it, we concieved it and then we actually finished it. We put in a lot of hot hours on the pavement for 2 days.

Art Auction - Santa Rosa, CA

Last Friday we went to an art auction at the Vinyard Creek Hyatt in Santa Rosa. I didn't expect to see such an amazing collection of artists. One of the events at the auction included a demonstration by artist Simon Bull. I was instantly drawn to his piece called "Gallaxy"

That's the painting there behind my date, the wonderful "Mr. Winters". It's of a huge plum. Simon was a charming guest at our table at one point, telling us about his artist life in Monterey. I was also intrigued by his painting of a chard leaf, this one has stunning light effects when you look at it up close.

Simon Bull gave a painting demonstration while talking about the artistic process, he was very inspirational! You can see more works by Simon Bull HERE.

The whole experience was fabulous, beautiful day in Santa Rosa, the hotel was lovely, the staff was exceptional and the other people attending the event were just so wonderful. We had a chance to dine with them on Friday night at the restaurant of chef "John Ash". Other intriguing guests included a dynamic couple from San Francisco, local wine producer from Santa Rosa and his wife the art collector, the museum photographer, who was also as inspirational as the other artists. He was happy to tell us all about his process, his camera and being the gallery photographer.

And then I was surprised to see this painting which should be in a museum, a Renoir worth close to a half a million dollars.

And then, to my surprise, among all these classics, was Peter Max. I've always been a really big fan of his.

And then, another artist I was really surprised to see was Salvador Dali. I have been interested in his life ever since grade school, I thought he was just so weird.



I can't say enough about the delicious food and exceptional wines like Merus and Heitz Cellars Martha's Vineyard Cabernet. Other artists at this event included Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, Toulouse-Lautrec, Whistler, Chagall, Miro, Erte, and last but certainly not least was Picasso. Contemporary names besides Mr. Max included Tarkay, LeKinff, Bull, Krasnyansky, Fanch, Medvedev, Kipniss, and Neiman.
